Explore Rhythms of the Diaspora: Drumming Workshop at Howe Library
ALBANY, NY – On Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 1:00-3:00pm, Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site will offer a Get to Know Pinkster program at the Howe Branch of the Albany Public Library.
Join us as musician, educator, and cultural practitioner Jordan Taylor-Hill leads a hands-on drumming workshop exploring West African and Caribbean diasporic music.
This program is free and family friendly, but not a drop off event. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Call the museum at 518-434-0834 to register.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own percussive instruments. A limited number of djembe drums will be on hand.
After the drumming workshop, join us at Schuyler Mansion to help decorate a recreated Pinkster Shelter!
Once considered a colonial Dutch holiday, Pinkster quickly became an African celebration of family, hope, and cultural identity. These events will introduce Pinkster before our annual Pinkster celebration at Schuyler Mansion on June 7, 2025.
The Howe Branch of the Albany Public Library is located at 105 Schuyler Street.
